My awesome group |
The size is to big to drive all together, we split up into 3 sperate groups. Only at the campsite we all stayed together.
At the next day we had to get up quite early, we meet at 7:45 ready to leave, before this we had free pancakes :D
We packed our stuff into our car, we called it Hans!
The food, drinks and everything else we stored in the trailer of the leading car, driven by the guide. Time to start our adventure!
Fraser Island |
After the ferry we had to drive due soft sand, which means "first gear and balls" ;P (as our guide would say) It means between 3000 and 3500 revolutions per minute. Driving on sand is really a different experience and a lot of fun. First highlight was
lake McKenzie, wow so blue and special definitely a place you have to been ones in your live.
Even the drive to it was awesome and a challenge.
I had luck and was the driver for half way :D
On the way back we had a crash, nothing happened to us, only hit some sand. But maybe half meter more and we could roll over, lucky nothing happened! The driver lost the control as we drove down.
In my group we had an experienced driver, who worked for a year in these conditions or worse. He got the car back on track.
After this we had a long drive back to the campsite. At the way we saw three time a dingo.
They followed the trailer, because the smelled the food. I drove again, the last part to the camp.
It is really a awesome and special feeling driving on the beach 80 km/h while the waves are nearby.
To finish the first day we as a group had to cook our dinner. One doucheback got the gas bottle on fire... Everyone run away only Manu from my group was relaxed and graped the fire blanked. Two other guys and I got back to turn of the gas and grap the fire extinguisher to be safe. At the end of the day we died nearly two times ;) and we started to drink.
Next day I got up at 4:20 am to see the sunrise.
Second day we drove to Indian Heat. Lots of people...
You are not allowed to go to far to the cliffs, but nobody cares. The Ranges arrived, but he couldn't do anything to much people.
Campaign pool was next, awesome to relax and the only place were you can go in salt water without danger on Fraser.
At the afternoon we had to change car, to the guide one, so the other group also could drive.
We stopped at the wreck on the beach.
Last stop we got to Eli Creek it is the largest fresh water river on Fraser. The water is so clear and clean you can drink it, it is actually the water we drunk the whole day.
You have to start at the point and floating down on your back the whole river. In the evening nothing special happened.
Next day started really annoying, because we left last we had to clean the mess from the other groups...
Last day we only drove to Lake Wabby or better walked 2,5 km ;)
It is special only a few steps into the lake and you have no chance to stay anymore. Also really awkward feeling is the tiny fish, which nibble.
Then Fraser was over, after three amazing days and a lot of fun. Thanks to all my amazing group members, was awesome :D
Also a funny fact is you always meet some people you already met before, you never know whom but you know someone ;)
The evening after Fraser we set together, played some cards and listen to our guide playing the guitar.
Next day I went up to the Carlo sand dune to try sand boarding.
It wasn't really fast, but we had fun and nothing else to do ;) I definitely have to try it again at a faster spot :D
Next stop is Airlie Beach and a 3 days sailing trip to the Whitsundays.
Cheers and have fun
Steffen
